KIDS
CLASSES
We run Danish language and culture classes for children from Prep to Year 12 monthly on a Sunday from 10am - 12pm at the Club. The classes aim to bring families and children together to learn Danish and connect with each other, as well as the culture/heritage of Denmark through reading, writing, speaking and listening activities.
Prep - 11yo
- Beginner Danish: Dansk for 'sjov'! (10am - 11am)
This group is taught through games and play, using the Danish language as much as possible. The class is a great place for everyone to make friends from the Danish community and exposes them to Danish culture. This is a 60-minute class with Michella from 10am - 11am. - Capable Danish: Dansk for udvikling! (11am - 12pm)
This group is taught through play, games and activities in a 60-minute class with Michella, and is for those who have the foundation laid and wish to take the language up a notch. This class is from 11am - 12pm.
12yo - 17yo (10am - 12pm)
- Ældre gruppe: The older group are taught through worksheets and activities developed for their age and abilities in a 2 hour class with Mogens.
We aspire to support the learning journey of your young person and hope the classes are a gathering place where they can meet other Danish/Australian kids with whom they can connect and have fun with throughout the year!
The lessons are supplementary to Danish being spoken at home and outside the classroom. It is important that children have a Danish-speaking person in their day-to-day to support their learning, enabling their progression.
Child class fees: $180 per year

OUR DANISH TEACHERS
Michella Francis teaches our Dansk for Sjov and Dansk for Udvikling classes. Michella is a native Dane from Sjælland, who immigrated to Australia 20 years ago. Michella is passionate and excited about teaching the kids Danish language and culture and looks forward to meeting you! Michella has a daughter who is currently learning Dansk aswell, they have a kat and when they go back to Denmark, they love the good old Dansk mad som kartoffler og frikadeller, og rugbrød.
Mogens Johansen teaches our Ældre Gruppe is a native Dane from Aalborg, Jylland!
ADULT CLASSES (Online)
Adult classes are held fortnightly on Mondays on Zoom with Mogens, 7pm - 8pm. All classes have homework and feedback is provided each week. There will be 3-4 lessons held in person throughout the year with the dates to follow. If you are interested in our online adult classes, please email Rebecca on contact@danishclubbrisbane.org.
