Golf

(This photo is from a different day.)

My golf game is so bad I have had my ball retriever re-gripped.

McCleods Golf Course was the only venue where our day has been rained out in our five years of golf but this day was nothing but perfect when we assembled for our September gathering. It was a pleasure to see Jens Antonsen with us again looking trim and terrific and determined not to let today by pass him without a good round of ball striking.  Soren also joined us from PNG and naturally he figured in the award winning. A record was made before we started when all were dressed in our red (with white trim) official uniform, the gear organised by Hannah. So easy to recognise us when on the fairways.

Stroke play was the order of the day where putting shots counted which was good for Grant who bested with 32  in ‘B’ grade as did Hanne with the same figure in ‘A’ grade. The 6th. hole was chosen as our Eagled Nest target which proved to be a hole of high drama when Kai, for the second time this season, placed his ball within the two metre target but not before robbing Grant of  the a certain win. Teeing off first Grant shot landed within the circle and that should have ended the matter but Kai, honed to perfection with many hours of golf in his retirement struck his ball to the flag and, would you believe it, knocked Grant’s ball from the circle claiming the prize for himself. It is obvious he did this on purpose and although impressive he will be encouraged to take up bowls in the future where such skills are more appreciated. And just to mark the hole as the ‘Skindbjerg Hole’ Grethe, who was in the following group, struck the flag from the tee. Wow. It was no surprise then to see Grethe nearest the pin on the 2nd. hole.

No surprise either for Grant to score 67 and to earn himself a prize with Torben coming up 2nd. in  the ‘B’ grade comp. For ‘A’ grade Grethe had 72 and Soren, on a count back, followed up with 78.

The group of terrapins in the lake at the last hole seemed mildly interested in our play watching the tee shots, must be a healthy environment for them, they were a pleasure to see. And it will be a pleasure to see all on our Gympie trip starting on the 25th. September, assemble at the motel in plenty of time for a 11 o’clock start.

Happy golfing,

William.
